Along the line of やalong the lines ofという口語表現があります。例えば退職祝いを数名の同僚と買うときに、「何を送ればいいかな？」という話になることがありますね。そんな時に、I was thinking something along the lines of a new wallet.「新しい財布か何かを考えているんだけど」と言います。Along the lines of～は「〇〇みたいなもの」の意味で、Something likeと同じ意味です。もしくは、John told me something along the lines of his clients claimed the contract would not be renewed this fall.であれば、「『秋に契約の更新はないとクライアントから聞いた』みたいな話をジョンがしていたよ」となります。
